Objectives
The higher-ranking goal of WP5000 is the identification and development of strategies for sustainable development of urbanized areas in the YRD. Especially against the background of the scarcity of natural resources (foremost water) and on-going climate change, a sustainable development is of central concern (Li et al., 1999). With respect to this the pending questions arises how sustainable development within the area of conflict between urbanization, associ-ated land-use change by infrastructure development, urban sprawl, population pressure and social transformation processes can be archived. Urban water resource management, future-proof urban planning and adequate steering tools play a decisive role. Especially the derivation of highly detailed geodata in combination with socio-economic and demographic data as well as the development of scenarios for the YRD is of crucial importance to generate a holistic perspective. With it the basis for sustainable, future-proof regional management and urban planning will be given.
WP 5000 is structured in four Tasks with following Activities:
Task 5100: Monitoring and analysis of urbanisation
Task 5200: Analysis of socio-ecologic change
Task 5300: Modeling and scenario-development for urban areas
Task 5400: Inter- and transdisciplinary development of recommendations
