Two DELIGHT PhD students have started their work at SLU in May/June 2013

SLU has employed two PhD students for the DELIGHT project, who have now taken up their PhD research studies. Tobias Leichtle holds a Master in Geospatial Technologies from the Karl-Franzens University of Graz. He started his PhD contract at SLU on 1st May 2013 and will work in the context of urbanization and water resources for major cities in the Yellow River Delta. Christian Wohlfart holds a Master in Global Change Ecology from the University of Bayreuth and is with SLU since June 1st 2013.

DELIGHT Project presented at Sino-German MOST BMBF Clean Water Summit in Shanghai, 14.04.2013

The German and Chinese DELIGHT project coordinators, Dr. Claudia Kuenzer and Prof. Liu Gaohuan, presented the current status and the annual work plan of the DELIGHT project during a MOST BMBF Clean Water Summit at the Shanghai EXPO center on 14th of May 2013. Based on invitation of BMBF and PTKS all coordinators of Sino-German projects running under CLIENT attended the meeting. Furthermore, most Definition Projects (Anbahnungsprojekte) under CLIENT were present.

First field campaign in the Yellow River Delta, May 11th and 12th 2013

The Kick-off meeting of the DELIGHT project was followed by a two-day field trip to the Yellow River Delta on May 11th and 12th. The delta tour was accompanied by two researchers from the IGSNRR. The group was warmly welcomed by the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve Administration Bureau. During the trip the German project partners have got an impression on the various activities within the delta region, ranging from wetland restoration, tourism development, and oil and gas exploration, to large infrastructural projects such as the Dongying port.

DELIGHT Kick Off Meeting has been held at IGSNRR in Beijing, May 10th 2013

The DELIGHT Kick Off Meeting has been held at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, IGSNRR, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS in Beijing on May 10th. Overall, 26 project partners from the Chinese and the German side contributed to the event. Next to researchers from the various institutes contributing to the project, also several CEOs of small and medicum scale enterprises, as well as two stakeholders from the Dongying Municipality were present.

Meeting of researchers from IGSNRR and DLR in Beijing, May 8th 2013

The first meeting of researchers from IGSNRR and DLR after the start of the DELIGHT project was hold on May 8th 2013 at the IGSNRR in Beijing. The researchers from both institutes will work together in the DELIGHT project on remote sensing of the natural and cultural environments in the Yellow River Delta. During the meeting previous research studies were presented and some aspects related to the future research in the DELIGHT project discussed.

IT Meeting at IGSNRR, April 22nd 2013

On April 22nd 2013 a first meeting of DELIGHT IT experts from IGSNRR and DLR took place in Beijing. Already accomplished work related to information system development, and expertise gained within the expert groups were discussed. The presentation of developed information systems for different purposes and projects resulted in a fruitful exchange. Moreover, very first steps of the joint development of the new DELIGHT information system were discussed.
